Patient-Centric Design

Studio Smiles Northwest, a recipient of the ADA's Design Innovation Award, is a 3,304-square-foot dental clinic designed for optimal patient comfort, featuring warm, home-like aesthetics, spacious treatment rooms with modern equipment, and a unique glass wall adorned with an etched fingerprint to emphasize the individuality of each patient.

This 3,304 square foot dental clinic was designed to maximize patient comfort in a warm and welcoming environment. The reception and waiting area feature comfortable lounge seating, vibrant colors, and warm wood accents to create a homey feeling. Slate inspired flooring and the chiseled edge reception counter, along with extensive glazing and views to the exterior, infuse the Pacific Northwest’s natural charm into the space. A glass wall with a large, etched fingerprint is a dramatic focal point and visually conveys Dr. Henderson’s belief that each patient is unique. The clinic features multiple treatment rooms as well as administrative and staff support spaces including a locker room, kitchen/breakroom, and conference rooms. The treatment rooms are spacious and designed to accommodate leading edge dental chairs and equipment without creating a claustrophobic feeling. The material palette is light and bright with modern casework in easy to clean, hygienic finishes. Wood framed windows with views to the exterior garden serve as a calming distraction for patients while they undergo treatments. Studio Smiles Northwest was the recipient of the American Dental Association’s [ADA] inaugural 2019 Design Innovation Award and serves as a model for the next generation of dental clinics.
